What is price tracking?

SousChef can connect to your local supermarket and show you current prices, specials, and price history for the products you buy. This is a Sous Pass feature.

Setting up a price provider

  1. Go to Settings > Price Lookup.
  2. Select your supermarket (currently Woolworths NZ, with more coming soon).
  3. Once enabled, price data will be available across the app.

What you get

Specials badges

When a product linked to one of your recipe ingredients or staples is on special, you'll see a badge on the recipe and shopping list item.

Price history

Tap any linked product to see a price history chart. This shows how the price has changed over time so you can tell if a "special" is genuinely a good deal.

Ask Sous about prices

With a price provider enabled, you can ask Sous things like:

  • "Is steak on special?"
  • "What's the cheapest way to make chicken stir-fry this week?"
  • "Show me what's on special that I could cook."

Linking products

To get the most out of price tracking, link your recipe ingredients and staples to specific supermarket products:

  1. Open a recipe and tap an ingredient.
  2. Tap Link to Product and search for the matching product.
  3. Once linked, price and special data will appear automatically.

You can also link staples to products from the staples management screen.
