Importing Recipes

Importing recipes (from a URL, photos, or the share sheet) is a Sous Pass feature, since Sous uses AI to read and structure them. On the Free plan you can still add recipes manually. See Subscriptions and Sous Pass.

Three ways to import recipes

Import from a URL

  1. Find a recipe on any website.
  2. In SousChef, tap the + button on the Recipes tab.
  3. Choose Import from URL and paste the link.
  4. Sous reads the page and creates a structured recipe with ingredients, steps, and a photo.

This works with most recipe websites. If a site doesn't work well, try the Share Extension instead.

Import from photos

  1. Tap + > Import from Photos.
  2. Take photos of your cookbook pages, or select images from your camera roll.
  3. You can photograph multiple pages -- Sous will combine them into a single recipe.
  4. Sous reads the text from the images and creates a full recipe.

This is perfect for getting your favourite cookbook recipes into the app.

Share from your browser or another app

  1. Open a recipe in your browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) or another app.
  2. Tap the Share button.
  3. Select SousChef from the share sheet.
  4. The recipe will be imported and added to your collection.

This works from any app that can share a link -- not just your browser.

You need to be signed in to SousChef for the Share Extension to work -- if you see a "please sign in" message, open the main app and log in first. If SousChef doesn't appear in the share sheet, scroll to the end of the row and tap More to enable it.

After importing

Once imported, you can edit any part of the recipe: title, ingredients, steps, servings, and more. Sous also generates an AI photo if the original recipe didn't have one.
